April 8th Action for Improved Medicare for All!
Single Payer Health Care, HR #676.
Saturday, April 8th from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM
in front of Sherman Hospital on Randall Road in Elgin
that’s 1425 N Randall Rd, Elgin, IL 60123.
See the map here.

This will be part of a Nationwide Day of Action.  Please join us in a rally for HR #676, Single Payer Health Care.

Thanks to the persistent and persuasive activism of literally millions of Americans, we stopped the cruel Paul Ryan Health Care Plan which would have thrown more than 20 million citizens off the insurance rolls.  When that plan went down to a well-deserved and ignominious defeat, it opened up an opportunity for us to raise our voices and call for the only plan that will genuinely cut health care costs, cover everybody, preserve choice of provider, and give Americans the health care we deserve.  Many of us have argued for Single Payer Health Care for years.  The fight to make it happen is still a long and daunting one, because many of our elected officials and the mainstream media will not even conduct an open and fact-based dialogue about it.   read more

What did we learn from the election? Where do we go From Here? Sat., Dec 10th, Elgin

Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice will hold a meeting on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 from 1 PM till 3 PM
at Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren
783 W. Highland Avenue
Elgin, IL  60123

This special meeting will be an opportunity for our members, friends, and allies to come together to explore how we can constructively and vigorously act in response to the election results of November 8th.

We will have four very brief speakers to get us started with some focused ideas, but we will save 90 minutes for open discussion.

  •            Vince Hardt will talk about how progressives might take over Democratic Party organizations, especially at the local level, and work to make the party more responsive to human needs and less controlled by corporate interests.
  •             Earl Silbar will discuss the centrality of social class and the potential to  organize our resistance movement around that recognition. He will also discuss the potential for and difficulties facing a working class based socialist party.
  •              Traci Ellis will talk about how we can protect populations that are vulnerable to attack under the new regime: the undocumented,  Latinos, Muslims, African-Americans, Jews, Women and others.
  •              Deni Mathews will talk about how, in the face of the climate crisis which threatens human civilization itself,  we can and must act to protect the natural world under the new administration.

We face attacks on everything we value.  We anticipate attacks on the press, on civil rights and civil liberties, as well as on vulnerable groups and individuals.  We anticipate increased militarism and war, attacks on organized labor and workers, attacks on the natural environment. Economic inequality will likely get worse, and corporate power, (already extreme) will continue to grow. It is time to gather our resources, renew our outreach to our fellow-citizens, and re-commit ourselves to fight for peace and justice at home and abroad.    Let us rise to that call. read more

Occupy Elgin for Sat., Nov. 26th, 2016

Occupy Elgin will gather on Saturday, November 26th at the corner of Kimball Street and Grove Avenue in Elgin from 1 PM till 2 PM. Our message will be

WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!

Below is the text of the flyer we will distribute.
We are shocked and saddened by the recent election. But we will continue to stand up for peace and diplomacy along with racial, economic, gender, social, and environmental justice. These are moral commitments, and we will not back down from them.

We celebrate the greatness of America in the enormous diversity of our population, in our constitution and bill of rights which gave citizens protections against tyranny, and in the proud history of the social movements which fought to expand that citizenship and those protections to groups that had previously been excluded, oppressed and even enslaved. read more
